"Where is the next village?" Quenum asked. They had been on this rode all day, and already made about five stops to rest, and still hadn't reached the village Yuhed said was ahead, and Quenum was getting tired.
"It's up ahead," Yuhed replied predictably.
"Where up ahead?" Forest asked, turning in her seat in the double-seated saddle in front of Yuhed.
"Up ahead. I don't know exactly where, but this road has to lead somewhere, doesn't it?"
"So you mean you're lost?" Matt asked, nibbling on a few berries they had picked before they left the camp in the morning.
"No, I am not lost. I just don't know what's up ahead. I know how to get back home."
-She's lost,- both of the girls' minds echoed in Matt's head and he stifled a laugh.
-She's probably not,- he protested, trying to defend Yuhed at least a little since she couldn't herself. -It makes sense you know, I mean, kinda like time. You can look back, but you don't know what's up ahead.-
Quenum nodded, but Forest wasn't giving up so easy. -It means the same thing. If you don't know where you're going, then you're lost, it's as simple as that.-
-But...- Matt's mind voice broke off for a moment. -She was right, there is a village up ahead,- his words were tinged with startlement.
-What do you mean?- Quenum asked suddenly, while Forest asked, -How do you know?-
-I'm not sure. I just kinda.. streached my mind out ahead, in the direction of the road. You can see it.-
Both the girls tried it expirimentaly.
-Yeah, I can see it,- Forest's mind-voice came back. -There's an extra big building right beside the raod where it starts. I can't see much after that, and it's kinda fuzzy.-
Quenum slumped in the saddle. -I could see it okay, but I'm so tired now..- She started to topple and Matt had to take hold of her before she fell.
Quenum looked up at him a moment and then smiled weakly. "Sorry."
"Yuhed," Matt called up to her, "I think it's time we took another break."
Yuhed looked back and nodded.
"Thank goodness," Forest said exasperatly, "I'm tired of being in this saddle, my bum hurts, and I feel about as tired as Quenum is."
"Wait-" Matt started.
Forest held up a hand to stop him. "Don't even TRY to make sense of that."
While the girls rested Matt sat staring off to the distens where the upcoming villige would be.
"Matt ? Are you okay," Quenum looked at him from where she was laying on the ground.
"Yeah I'm fine just trying something, so far it seems to be working," Matt smiled down at Quenum.
"Yeah well what's that then Matt," Forest looked questioning at Matt.
"Um you know that Far Seeing thing we did ealier ? I'm working at it so I can try to see the whole town and distents. So far it's working kindof."
"Really ?!" Forest sat there as she streached her mind out slowly taking everything she can into veiw, "wow, I say 5-10 miles what about you Matt ?"
"Yeah that was my guess too. Hey Yuhed can we start out now ?"
Yuhed looked down that the three children, "You guys in a hurry now, how come ?"
Quenum looked up at Yuhed, "No reason, just have a feeling that if we leave now, we might hit that down before sunset."
Yuhed looked at the sky, "It's about three hours before sunset. We'll see if we make it before sunset..."
About two hours later they road into the town, it was just like Matt and Forest had said it would be, Quenum frowned at it since all she could make out on the Far Seeing was a vage outline of the town walls...
