They had traveled for less then a day when Quenum started to feel strangely frightened. She didn?t know what the cause was she surmised that maybe it was because it had been so long since her and Forest had been out of the house.
Yuhed who had been watching the girl since the trip started looking for signs of fatigue in the girls because she didn?t want to over tax them, and had planed to stop as soon as the first signs showed, noticed the look of fear on Quenum?s face. She asked Quenum what was wrong was she hurting, what.
Quenum told her as the others listened no she was not in pain that she didn?t know maybe because it had been so long since Forest and her had been out of the house.
Forest said that she didn?t feel anything bad, that if anything being in the forest with the sun shining through the trees and all the birds and just every thing else made her feel better then she had felt for sometime.
Yuhed said to Quenum that if you think we need to stop we can I see a good place over there we can rest, No Quenum said I?m feeling fine except for this strange fear I think I?ll be alright, let?s don?t stop yet.
Matt is hearing all of this and now worriedly looks at Quenum setting there in front of him they hadn?t been talking for over an hour because Matt had been caught up in all the wonders of the forest this is the first time he had been this far west into the deep woods. Are you sure your ok he says, Quenum assures him she is, but he can?t let it go in his mind and just keeps staring at her.
Forest has managed to get ahead of everyone else slows up as she is coming to a bend in the trail that they are following to listen to what is being said she is concerned about her twin also, and begins to talk to her in twin talk when all of a sudden three masked characters spring from around the corner. Forest attention immediately is shaken from her conversation with her sister she is very frighten, she realizes what is going on, she remembers the story that Kintrae was telling Yuhed about thieves in the woods. As her mind catches on to what is happening she gets mad, (this all happens in an instant but seems like hours to Forest) when she does she passesout.
Yuhed is very upset she doesn't even notice her fear for what is happening she only sees that her beloved charge is in trouble but because she is behind Matt and Quenum and at this part the trail is very narrow she can't get to Forest.
Matt was still looking at Quenum in his worry about her strange feelings he hasn?t had time to notice what is happening . Quenum is still assuring Forest that she is alright and has just now noticed that Forest is no longer talking to her, and that Yuhed is making a lot of noise behind her.
Then as Forest passes out a huge noise can be heard from the sky time seems to stand still for none of know how long, and then this huge dragon appears in the sky coming down heading directly at the place Forest is being attached by the thieves.
For the thieves part everyone of them see the dragon and turns and runs for his/her lives into the woods, with the dragon chasing them. As the dragon disappears into the woods Forest regains conscious and finds Yuhed Matt And Quenum looking down on her, She ask what happened.
Yuhed says be quite for now, Matt would you carry her back to that place I notice before that we can rest at.
And to everyones surprises even hers Quenum has managed to walk on her own momentum, she didn?t even realize she had done it when her sister had fainted, she is still weak though and asked Matt to come back and get her after he has placed Forest on the mat that Yuhed has placed on the ground.
As they rode along the sun was starting to set. They had made many rest stops since the humiliation of the morning wore off, but the girls still seemed to be exausted.
"Yuhed," Matt called ahead of them.
Yuhed reined in and turned to see Matt struggling to keep himself and Quenum in the saddle, of whom had fallen asleep. "Hold on," she replied, looking around for a good place to stop.
She led them off into the forest beside the road and found a clearing not far off.
Matt lifted Quenum out of the saddle awkwardly and laid her down on a blanket Yuhed had spead on the grass. The two of them helped Forest down, who was starting to nod off, desipe her best efforts to stay awake, and set her beside her sister. While Matt was seeing to the horses and Yuhed seeing to a fire and something to eat, Quenum cracked an eye open to look at Forest.
-You okay?- she mindsent Forest, layering the thought with concern.
-Don't you ever actually sleep?- she returned irritably, turning to look at Quenum.
-I was a little while ago. You still didn't answer my question.-
-I'm fine as I ever was. You know how stupid a question that is.-
-Yeah, I guess I do.- Quenum shut her eyes and pretended sleep again as Matt came back and sat down beside her.
Forest coughed and Yuhed came over an draped a blanket around her shoulders, then went back to fixing some type of stew over the fire.
"Where are we all going to sleep tonight anyway?" Matt asked, stroking Quenum's hair absently.
-Trust him to think of something like that,- Quenum mindsent to Forest, making her smile a little.
"On the ground," she said, pointing out the obvious.
"Ohhhhh right..." Matt slurred. He wasn't the most intellectual fellow when he was tired. Within a matter of minutes, he fell asleep where he was sitting, leaning forward as if he were about to fall over. Yuhed shook her head and smiled, then set him down next to Quenum.
Yuhed woke both the girls up long enough to get them to eat a little something and take some of their medicine. A few moments later however, both were sound asleep again, Quenum cuddling close against Matt, an arm of his snaked out around her, and Forest close by at the edge of the blanket.
Yuhed smiled and covered each of them with a blanket, then built up the fire and curled up herself and soon fell asleep herself.
